Montezuma Historical Society will celebrate it’s 10th year at it’s Annual Meeting, Wednesday, June 15th at with dinner and a speaker at Brenda’s Restaurant, Route 31 in Port Byron. The meeting will begin at 6:30 PM with the Election of Officers and short meeting followed by dinner at 7:00 PM with a guest speaker who is an award- winning writer and documentary film maker, Author Michael T. Mr. Keene will share his research that has examined the lives and times of female serial killers and their heinous murders set in New York during the nineteenth century. During his talk he will give an unique look into the motivations of the women who serve as the subjects for his latest book with compelling stories from North Central New York living along the Erie Canal in small, isolated rural communities.
Among several women chronicled in the book he will be talking about are: Lizzie Halliday, convicted of murdering nine of her own family members. Catherine Claus, who boasted of killing 15 infants in her care, Caroline D. Sorgenfrie, charged with the murder of her four husbands’, and Ella Holdridge, the fourteen year old thrill killer who enjoyed looking at her victims because, “They looked so nice dead.”
